About
Dr. Bipul Kumer De Sarker, Associate Professor, currently work as Consultant in Glaucoma and additionally is a Phaco Surgeon in Ispahani Islamia Eye Institute and Hospital, Bangladesh (IIEI&H).
Having completed his graduate degree (MBBS) from Rajshahi Medical College, he completed his FCPS in Ophthalmology from the Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons. He has also passed FICO examinations from International Council of Ophthalmology, London and MRCS Ed. And FRCS Ed in Ophthalmology from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, UK.
He pursued a Long-term Fellowship in Glaucoma from Ispahani Islamia Eye Institute and Hospital, Bangladesh with an Observership from Aravind Eye Hospital, Madurai, India.
He also completed his fellowship in Glaucoma from New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai, USA.
He is specialized in all types of cataract and glaucoma surgeries including valve implants and laser glaucoma surgeries, with a special interest in innovating modifications in glaucoma surgery to make it more effective and safer for patients.
He is a member of Asia-Pacific society of cataract and refractive surgery, life member of Ophthalmological Society of Bangladesh and acting as Organizing secretary of Bangladesh Glaucoma Society and publication Secretary of Ophthalmological society of Bangladesh.
Dr. Sarker was awarded the prestigious “M A Matin Gold Award” from Ophthalmological society of Bangladesh for contribution in ophthalmic research in the year 2020 and also awarded “Award in excellence” for mentoring commonwealth glaucoma fellow in Nigeria, Africa.
Apart from his clinic duties, he also involved in training, teaching, and research, with publications in peer-reviewed journals and books.
He has published over 15 papers in national and 3 scientific papers in international peer reviewed indexed journals including European Journal of Ophthalmology, German medical science. He also co-authored a book chapter in ‘’Advances in Vision Research, Volume II’’ published by Springer.
He is the head of research of glaucoma of IIEI&H and has trained national and international glaucoma fellows and mentored foreign commonwealth fellows working at National Institute ophthalmology, Nigeria.
In addition to his work, he also enjoys reading and traveling, which allows an exposure to a vast array of different cultures.
